Exploring The Wilds

{by alicia} We’re huge animal lovers here at Wander & Whine, so when I finagled some tickets to The Wilds, it was like Christmas and our birthdays rolled into one. I mean, an open-air safari tour to see rhinos, giraffes, big cats, and more? COUNT US IN. (Ignore the fact Alexis is petrified of jungle cats. More on that later.)

If you’re unfamiliar with the Wilds, it’s a conservation facility located in Cumberland, Ohio, and its mission is to advance conservation through science, education, and personal experience. Jack Hanna is involved, so you know it’s good. It’s also pretty popular, so if you’re interested in going, MAKE SURE you reserve a spot on your desired tour—especially if you’re going with a group.

Four of us made the trip to Cumberland (which is about an hour and a half from Columbus), and after we parked, we hopped on a quick shuttle to the main building before boarding our open-air bus. Once we got past the securely gated area, all of us started yelling about how it felt like Jurassic Park. Then we encountered some cheeky friends and that’s where the similarities ended.

The BIA Parade of Homes

{by alexis} Since we moved into our house a year ago (a year!), I’ve been working hard to transform it from a house rented by lazy college students to a house lived in by adults. It’s been a slow process, but we’re making progress. Last month, the folks at the BIA Parade of Homes reached out to invite us to the neighborhood, and I knew it would be chock full of ideas. So last week, we piled in, pulled up, threw back a beer from the Schmidt’s truck, and started knocking on doors. And of course we started with the Christmas House!

Ye Olde Mill – Velvet Ice Cream

Ye Olde Mill Velvet Ice Cream

{by alicia} Earlier this summer, Velvet Ice Cream invited a slew of bloggers to check out their digs in Utica, Ohio. As luck would have it; I was able to go with one my favorite blogger frands, Autumn Theodore, photog extraordinaire (you might also know her from her former site Best of the Menu).

Utica is a hop and skip away from Columbus (less than an hour drive), and the Velvet campus hosts its factory, an ice cream parlour/restaurant, visitor’s center, exhibits, and lots of scenic opportunities (you can even get married here!). We kicked things off by peeking into the factory and learning about the commercialized ice cream manufacturing. Spoiler: it’s in-depth and quite the process. I think I’ll stick with simply buying it. We took a look around and played shutterbug.

Thirty-One Tote Review + Giveaway

{by alexis} If you’re a working woman of any age, I am willing to bet my (fictional) fortune that you have spent more than a few hours hunting for the perfect work bag. The bag that fits your laptop, iPad, lunch, water bottle, coffee traveler, planner, wallet, phone — I COULD GO ON. Just writing that list stressed me out. After snapping the handles of our friendship bags (this is a real thing for us), we hadn’t had any luck finding one bag to rule them all. That is until Thirty-One Gifts reached out to us, and gifted us these beautiful leather numbers that quite literally solved all of our problems. Click through for more AND a giveaway!
