Celebrating Ohio Wine Month at Gervasi

{by alicia} June is Ohio Wine Month. You know what that means? That’s right! Another excuse to drink wine!

It’s also a good excuse to make a weekend trip out of it. Many of my friends have visited Gervasi Vineyard in Canton, Ohio, and unanimously raved about it. I had the perfect opportunity through the Ohio Grape Industries Committee (OGIC), who I partnered with for this post, to check it out. So last weekend, I booked a villa and made the quick two hour drive to heaven on Earth.

The grounds are sprawling and stunning to walk through with a glass of wine. But first, we had to drop our things off at the villa.

We stayed in the Two-Level King Luxury Suite and never wanted to leave. It was huge at 603 square feet with amenities like a fireplace, heated towel rack, and the most comfortable bed ever. As a bonus, all of the villas come with a complimentary Italian-style Continental Breakfast for up to two guests featuring house made pastries, granola, fresh fruit garnish, coffee, yogurt and juice delivered straight to your door.

Did I mention this was heaven?

We meandered along the paths until we came up on a pond (naturally, there was a swan in there) and went straight to the Piazza Patio to officially celebrate Ohio Wine Month.

To start, he got a white wine, and I got rosé because of course. The staff at Gervasi are so knowledgeable, and were able to steer us towards the perfect wine for our palettes. If you’re a beginner, don’t be intimated! They’re here to help and give small samples when you’re feeling cagey.

Open containers can be consumed on much of the property, so we flitted around before dinner and soaked up the sights.

We had reservations at the Bistro which won a couple Reader’s Choice awards in USA Today’s 10BEST of 2016. Needless to say, I was excited to check it out.

We kicked things off with more wine. Well, we are celebrating here! By the end we decided our favorites were the Tesoro, Lambrusco, and Romanza. Fortunately, Gervasi makes it possible to purchase bottles onsite, but you can also have them shipped to your home if you’re in Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, New York, Indiana, Illinois, District of Columbia, Florida, Texas and California!
But if you can make it out in person that’s the way to do it! The food also lived up to the hype. We ordered the Sunday Supper which comes with a large salad, the best lasagna I’ve ever eaten, and pizza for $17 per person. Everything from the garlic bread at the beginning to the dessert at the end was phenomenal.

After all this food and drink we rolled ourselves back to the villa and slept like babies. The treats didn’t end there! In the morning our breakfast arrived in an adorable wine crate and was a lovely way to end our time here.

I can’t possibly say enough good things about my experience at Gervasi. The wine, environment, and food made for a fabulous time, and that’s only the tip of the iceburg–they also offer tours, classes, tastings, and more. Make it your next staycation because there’s still plenty of time left in the month to celebrate Ohio Wine!

If you can’t make it out to Canton, why not check out the closest Ohio winery near you? We have 268 options to choose from! I know, isn’t that crazy? We’re also the eighth largest producer of wine in the U.S., so there’s plenty of good stuff to go around. The OGIC is hosting a contest through the rest of the month, so be sure to tag your Ohio winery photos with #30CheersOH and #OhioWine to win all kinds of prizes and enjoy supporting local wine!
